The athletics year got off to a very productive start with the multi-events in September. First we had the Leinster Finals where we had two gold medal winners. Paul Byrne won the Inter and Owen Scully won the Junior. Weronika Oniszk in her first competition was 10th in the Junior Girls. Paul and Owen continued on to the All-Ireland where Paul finished first and Owen second. They are both now selected on the Irish Schools International Team which goes to Glasgow in December.
The cross country season is also underway with the three county league and county finals. The Junior Boys team of Nathan Walsh, David Aston, Conor Heffernan and James McGrath are doing very well. They won the county, are winning the league and were second in the Brother Invitation in Dublin. The Inter Boys are also doing well, lying second in the league and composed of Danny Lawler, Graham Power, Gavin Curran and Conor Cleary. The Inter Girls are also in line to pick up medals with one leg of the league to go.
The team is Stacey Farrell, Molly Carbery, Vicky Kidd, Paulina Vidiksis and Orla Gordon. The final leg in November is a relay leg which should provide great excitement. The First Year boys and girls are also competing at Minor level and have made great progress since September. Caoimhe Byrne, Joanna Kulik, Katie Mooney and Paula Lopez are the girls’ team while Lee Campbell, Pauric Dempsey, Matthew Taylor and Lukas Vidiksis are the most prominent boys.
