Welcome to Presentation College Carlow

Presentation College is a co-educational  Catholic voluntary secondary school which caters for pupils of all religions and backgrounds.  We aim to provide our pupils with an education that equips them for life and living in the modern world.  We aim to challenge students to share with us the Christian vision of life.  We have drawn up a Mission Statement that describes the kind of school we wish to be.  We hope that every member of the school community will attempt to live by it and we intend that all of our decisions are informed by it and our school development plans based on it.

Active School Flag - 12 October 2011

ACTIVE SCHOOL FLAG

Congratulations to Presentation College, Carlow who received the Active School Flag on Friday January 27th from the Department of Education and Skills in recognition of our schools’ endeavours to achieve a physically active and physically educated school community.

In order to be awarded the Active School Flag Presentation College had to

1. Commit to a process of self evaluation in terms of the P.E. and physical activity opportunities that we offer

2. Plan and implement a series of changes that will enhance P.E. and extracurricular provision and promote physical activity.

The Active School Flag remains valid for a period of three years.

We are very proud of our achievement in securing the Active School Flag and firmly believe in the importance of physical exercise as part of our students’ lifestyle contributing to their overall health and well being.

Presentation College World Finalists!! - 28 June 2011

Team Quark from Presentation College was delighted to receive the news that they would be representing Ireland at the F1 in Schools World Championships, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this September. The team of six Transition Year students – Oisín McHugh (Team Manager), Brian Rowan (Graphic Designer and Marketing Manager), Grace Byrne (Resources Manager), Richard Mynhardt (Design Engineer), Graham Power (Manufacturing Engineer) and Niamh Brennan (Resources Manager), worked extremely hard to reach the National Finals. There, they finished Second Overall, received Best Digital Marketing, Best Verbal Presentation and Best Reaction Time. They were unlucky to miss out on First Place, losing out in their last race by 1/1000th of a second. They are now collaborating with Team Celeritas from Sekolah Dato’ Abdul Razak from Negeri Seremban, Malaysia to form a collaborative team – Team Focus - for the World Championships.
The team is offering a comprehensive sponsorship package for interested parties and would appreciate any form of support available. Families, individuals or organisations wishing to make a financial contribution may do so through the school website where a payment facility through Paypal has been established, or by sending a contribution to the school.

Beat the Bleep-A John Murray Show/DCU Fitness Challenge for First Year Students

Over the coming weeks the First year classes in Presentation College, Carlow and across the country will work on increasing their fitness levels to beat their personal and class average Bleep Test fitness scores. Their aim is to win 1000 euro towards their Physical Education programme and a place on a three day live in sports and activity camp at DCU.

The bleep test involves continuous running between two lines 20m apart in time to recorded beeps. The running speed is increased at approximately one minute intervals. Participants attempt to complete as many runs (shuttles) as possible while keeping up with the bleeps.

Beat the bleep is about participation and getting the unfittest involved, so prizes are going to be awarded, not to the fittest schools, but to the classes who improve the most-who work hard to basically beat their own bleep test scores. This challenge is been extended to Presentation College staff also.

For the six weeks leading up to the Easter holidays the Physical education Department are putting all First Year students through a training programme to help them improve their fitness levels and then they will retake their Bleep Tests prior to the Easter holidays. Professor Niall Moyna, fitness advisor to the Dublin footballers and a Professor at DCU’s School of Health and Human Performance believes that First year girls should be able to run around level 7.0(50 shuttles) and boys level 9.0(73 shuttles).
